Our own ABS filament has been released!

The FilamentOn project did not exactly start off smoothly. Even many years of experience in the plastics industry could not prepare us for the challenges of filament development. We had to overcome countless obstacles and difficulties, and new ones still lie ahead. But why did we decide to start developing 3D printing materials in the first place?

That was actually the easiest question to answer in the past year: because we love 3D printing. A lot!

We quickly joined the fast-paced world of 3D printing, just like many others. At first, our team members also used printers like Anet and BQ, but today we stand firmly with the Prusa–Bambulab line. As print speeds increased, we realized that the materials themselves could not always keep up with the printers. That’s when we decided that we would create a better material.

Since we couldn’t meet our own needs—or those of our partners—with PLA, we chose ABS as the basis for our first product. We reached out to several suppliers for pigments, additives, and base resins/granules in order to select the one best suited to our requirements. The result speaks for itself: we managed to create an ABS filament that suffers less from the usual drawbacks of the material, such as heavy warping, poor bed adhesion, strong odors during printing, and low melt flow index.

In contrast, our filament warps less, adheres excellently to commonly used print beds, produces a much less intense odor during printing*, and features an exceptionally high melt flow index of 34 cm³/10 minutes, making it ideal for high-speed printing.

Since we are still a start-up company, our initial color palette includes only a few basic colors, which we plan to expand in the future based on customer demand.

What is our goal with these materials?

Since all our branded filaments are developed and manufactured in Hungary, we cannot—and do not intend to—compete with the prices and selection of popular Asian manufacturers. Although their materials are not necessarily bad nowadays, their quality is highly inconsistent, and the available documentation is often lacking. With our filaments, our goal is to provide users with materials that remain affordable yet surpass Asian brands in quality, are 100% developed and manufactured in Hungary, and come with the benefit of direct support from us, the developers, whenever questions arise.

*A closed build chamber, HEPA filter, or ventilation system is still recommended. ABS printing releases harmful substances, so it must always be handled with great care.
